While I was writing the review of Super Star Wars I remembered a confusion that I had when I was younger with respect to this saga of movies and when I knew the existence of the Star Wars saga the new trilogy was being released, which would be prequels where we narrated the story of Anakin before becoming Darth Vader and at the time of becoming that being, however my big doubt and confusion was that I thought that Luke was the one who became Darth Vader, since not having so much notion about what I was seeing as I was very small, several of these movies I saw them in a totally wrong order, also taking into account that both Anakin and Luke share the surname Skywalker being father and son respectively, I remember spending a lot of time with that confusion and it was not until I was a little older that I could understand and see the movies in the right order. A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi correspond to the first trilogy, the oldest and those that were later renamed as Episodes IV, V and VI, were and are very famous movies which as I showed you in the previous Retro Review, its first movie had a video game adaptation (A New Hope) and due to the success of that first game, it was logical that they would develop a game of its sequel, which remains in the line of the first game, but has improvements in both graphics and gameplay, although perhaps not so obvious, since the first game is quite well done.
So, today's Retro Review is about: Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
As in the first game, this sequel keeps much of the main plot of the film, we will see several of the most emblematic moments of The Empire Strikes Back adapted to video game, although logically has certain differences, because when adapting a video game based on a movie you can not put exactly the same events that happen in the original product, in this case the movie, since they would not fit very well with all the playable aspect that needs a video game of this style, however, in the end it is still the same story of the second film, plus it is quite entertaining, as we can even relive the mythical and epic battle between Luke and Darth Vader where we are shown one of the biggest revelations of the film industry, it is simply epic.
Graphically this is a game that does not disappoint like the first one, but I consider that The Empire Strikes Back has a considerable visual and graphical improvement over the first game. But in general terms this is a game that maintains both the essence of Super Star Wars and of course, the aesthetics and charisma of the film. Again we can see the most emblematic locations and scenarios of the saga, with details so well cared for that are a 2D tracing to perfection, LucasArts demonstrating once again that in their best years they were one of the most dedicated game developers in the industry.
The character design enjoys great spectacularity, very well drawn and designed, they also have many details and a variety of enemies, many of them presenting really big designs and still do not lose graphic quality, but on the contrary, they look even better. The atmosphere and the design of scenarios is another aspect that stands out a lot in this game, as I said before, all the most emblematic scenarios that we could see in the movie The Empire Strikes Back, will be adapted in a masterful way in this game, totally recognizable scenarios and I am sure that for those people who grew up watching these movies, to see those places again but in the form of video game adaptation is certainly a great trip to the past.
In the sound aspect maintains the same quality of the previous game, so in this aspect there will be no surprises, music that perfectly recreate those that we can hear in the movies, from the most classic and memorable, to those less esteemed, but also part of a spectacular soundtrack. Likewise in the gameplay aspect, since The Empire Strikes Back is still a side-scrolling action and platform game, with lots of action, shooting and light sabers. We will also find the driving sections, which are very fun. And like the previous game, we can also choose several characters to control when we want, except for those moments where we are required to use a particular character, as this depends on the time of the story. Luke Skywalker is undoubtedly the best character, not only for being better balanced, because in addition to being able to use his laser gun, he can use his lightsaber and also the powers of the Force, being this the best playable character in this game. It has a somewhat high difficulty curve, perhaps higher than the previous game, but it is certainly a challenge worth overcoming, as it is a very entertaining game and that both its graphics and sound is spectacular.
Mientras escribía la review de Super Star Wars recordé una confusión que yo tenía cuando era más joven con respecto a esta saga de películas y es que cuando yo supe la existencia de la saga Star Wars se estaba estrenando la nueva trilogía, la cual serian precuelas donde nos narraban la historia de Anakin antes de convertirse en Darth Vader y al momento de convertirse en ese ser, sin embargo mi gran duda y confusión era que yo pensaba que Luke era quien se convertía en Darth Vader, ya que al no tener tanta noción sobre lo que estaba viendo a ser muy pequeño, varias de estas películas las vi en un orden totalmente errado, además teniendo en cuenta que tanto Anakin como Luke comparten en apellido Skywalker al ser padre e hijo respectivamente, recuerdo haber pasado bastante tiempo con esa confusión y no fue hasta que estuve un poco mayor que pude entender y ver las películas en el orden adecuado. A New Hope, The Empire Strikes Back y Return of the Jedi corresponden a la primera trilogía, las más antiguas y las que posteriormente fueron renombradas como Episodios IV, V y VI, fueron y son películas muy famosas las cuales como les mostré en la anterior Retro Review, su primera película tuvo una adaptación a videojuegos (A New Hope) y debido al éxito que tuvo ese primer juego, era lógico que desarrollarían un juego de su secuela, el cual se mantiene en la línea del primer juego, pero cuenta con mejoras tanto graficas como en jugabilidad, aunque quizás no tan evidente, ya que el primer juego está bastante bien hecho.
Por lo que, la Retro Review de hoy es sobre: Super Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back.
Al igual que en el primer juego, esta secuela mantiene gran parte del argumento principal de la película, veremos varios de los momentos más emblemáticos de The Empire Strikes Back de forma adaptada a videojuego, aunque lógicamente cuenta con ciertas diferencias, ya que cuando se adapta un videojuego basado en una película no se pueden poner exactamente los mismos acontecimientos que suceden en el producto original, en este caso la película, ya que no encajarían muy bien con todo el aspecto jugable que necesita un videojuego de este estilo, sin embargo, al final sigue siendo la misma historia de la segunda película, además que resulta bastante entretenida, ya que incluso podremos revivir el mítico y épico combate entre Luke y Darth Vader donde se nos muestra unas de las revelaciones más grandes de la industria del cine, simplemente es épico.
Gráficamente este es un juego que no decepciona al igual que el primero, pero considero que The Empire Strikes Back tiene una mejora visual y grafica considerable con respecto al primer juego. Pero en términos generales este es un juego que mantiene tanto al esencia del Super Star Wars y por supuesto, la estética y carisma de la película. Nuevamente podremos ver las localidades y escenarios más emblemáticos de la saga, con detalles tan bien cuidados que son un calco en 2D a la perfección, LucasArts demostrando una vez más que en sus mejores años eran una de las desarrolladoras de videojuegos más dedicas de la industria.
El diseño de personajes goza de gran espectacularidad, muy bien dibujados y diseñados, cuentan además con bastantes detalles y una gran variedad de enemigos, muchos de ellos presentando diseños realmente grandes y aun así no pierden calidad gráfica, sino todo lo contrario, se ven aún mejor. La ambientación y el diseño de escenarios es otros aspecto que destaca muchísimo en este juego, como dije anteriormente, todos los escenarios más emblemáticos que pudimos ver en la película de The Empire Strikes Back, estarán adaptados de forma magistral en este videojuegos, escenarios totalmente reconocibles y estoy seguro que para aquellas personas que crecieron viendo estas películas, volver a ver esos lugares pero de forma de adaptación a videojuego es sin duda un gran viaje al pasado.
En el aspecto sonoro mantiene la misma calidad del juego anterior, por lo que en este aspecto no habrá ninguna sorpresa, música que recrear perfectamente a las que podremos escuchar en las películas, desde las más clásicas y memorables, hasta aquellas menos estimadas, pero que igualmente forman parte de una banda sonora espectacular. Igualmente en el aspecto jugable, ya que The Empire Strikes Back sigue siendo un juego de acción y plataformas de scroll lateral, con mucha acción, disparos y sables de luz. También encontraremos las secciones de conducción, las cuales son muy divertidas. Y al igual que el juego anterior, también podremos elegir a varios personajes a controlar cuando queramos, a excepción de aquellos momentos donde nos exigen a utilizar a un personaje en concreto, ya que esto depende del momento de la historia. Luke Skywalker es sin duda el mejor personaje, no solo por estar mejor balanceado, porque además de poder utilizar su pistola laser, puede usar su sable de luz y además, los poderes de la Fuerza, siendo este el mejor personaje jugable de este juego. Tiene una curva de dificultad algo elevada, quizás mayor que la del juego anterior, pero sin duda es un reto digno de superar, ya que es un juego muy entretenido y que tanto en su aspecto gráfico, como sonoro es espectacular.
