Continuing with my publications dedicated to #Retro games that I tried in my life, today I bring you the videogame, Alex Kidd in Miracle World. This is a game of the platform genre which was developed by Sega, while its official release on the market was in September 1986. This game brought me a lot of joy at the time, it was part of my childhood and one of the games that I got to play the most, so it brings me very good memories. The plot of this game is about a young heir of Radaxian, which must try to save his hometown that is in the hands of our antagonist and alien, Janken the Great. The game was so successful at the time that from 2008 was released for Wii Virtual consoles, PlayStation Network and Nintendo eShop (Nintendo Switch), and these days is expected to be re-released for Xbox One, PlayStation 4, Nintendo Switch and compatible computers, something that I'm really glad. This release if I remember correctly is expected for the 24th of this month, that is, in 3 days.
Sega Corporationn 1 is a Japanese multinational video game development and distribution company headquartered in Shinagawa, Tokyo. Its two international subsidiaries, Sega America and Sega Europe, are headquartered in Irvine, California, and London, respectively. Sega's arcade division was called Sega Interactive Co., Ltd. from 2015 to 2020, then merged with Sega Games to create Sega Corporation. Sega is a subsidiary of Sega Group Corporation, which in turn is part of Sega Sammy Holdings. Between 1983 and 2002 Sega was also a developer of video game consoles.
This game is similar in gameplay and many aspects to Super Mario Bross, but from my point of view this one is much more complete. The game is of platform genre as I mentioned before, however it has a touch of role where the strategies are of vital importance, which makes the game more attractive than others of the same type. The player controls our character Alex Kidd where this character must pass a series of levels where he will have many obstacles, in addition to certain levels that must pass each of them and facing enemies to complete the final goal of the game. Each of the levels (17 levels) that the game has, our protagonist must face enemies of the highest level (bosses), as well as other opponents that are on the road that are destructible, as well as others that are not and when we touch them we lose health so the important thing is to avoid them.
Among what I remember of Alex Kidd's skills was hitting, which he mainly did to break rocks, as well as dropping to avoid obstacles and enemies. Something that seems very funny and something that I have not seen in other games is the mechanics when facing the final boss, which is the best of 3, playing rock, paper or scissors, to later take a resource that does not give the game, which at this time I do not remember what it was, but this had to be done to pass the level, however there are other final bosses that to defeat them must be hit and a combination of the two already exposed. The level of the game is not difficult far from it, however it has a good number of traps and our character can easily die if touched by enemies that are not destroyed as Ghost and fire flame. A game that the mechanics is not at all complicated to understand and that as you progress, we can go better and better.
Other things that I loved about this game was the fact that our character had several vehicles to move something that makes it better than Mario Bross. Among these vehicles include a boat with which Alex can move in the water, motorcycle which is the one I like the most because we can move quickly and run over enemies, besides jumping of course. In addition the game had another series of resources that we had to acquire to advance quickly and more safely in the game, I do not remember all but if bags of gold coins, extra lives in the form of our character (Alex Kidd), a powder that if I remember correctly made us invisible to our enemies. Another thing was that the game has treasures and the best thing is a store where we can buy things. A game that is really good and complete in many of the details. Remember that the game is retro and obviously has its flaws but the truth is that I do not take it much in terms and I will not mention them because of the great quality of this game, and the joys and entertainment that gave me at the time.
In the graphic part I can tell you that the game is pixel art and the first 8-bit game that we could play on color TV which was something very innovative at the time. A fairly complete game in the graphical part, which is very colorful and at the same time very striking, the animations I like a lot and more the time when the game was released, the characters were well created, plus they had good movements and fluid which is the important thing. But of course we could see some errors more than others, but overall this game is one of the best, most complete and very well worked that came out at the time. The truth is that it is a very outstanding game in the graphical part. The sound is another aspect in the game the game also excelled. It has very good sound effects, voices of our main character and enemies (final bosses). I also liked the soundtrack, as it was very entertaining and in line with the game.
In conclusion, Alex Kidd in Miracle World is a game of the platform genre in the style of Mario Bross that can give us the best possible experience in this type of game, which is very entertaining and fun, that not only can enjoy the smallest of the house, but also those who are lovers of games. It is a game with a good gameplay as it can be basic but very entertaining for the time, where the game has good resources with the motorcycle, boat and helicopter, as well as other resources such as to increase health, increase lives, coins, among many other things. We have a good variety of enemies of which some we must defeat them and others dodge them, where there are several ways to confront the enemies and defeat them in the best possible way, and as fast as possible. Graphically the game is very nice, colorful and with good animations. In addition to a sound that we can say that is impeccable. A game that marked an era and still does since, as I mentioned, its remake will be released very soon. If you have the opportunity to try this game, I recommend it with your eyes closed.
