Last weekend, my daughter started to write a short story about her imaginary world of horses. I think she was inspired by children book series called Horse Diaries. She told me about the main characters of her story and elaborated some details of appearance, relations with each others, and so on. The horse story began just like that.
In the middle of her writing journey, she asked,
"Dad, can you draw me some pictures of horses. It will be great if your pictures are in my book."
"What a great idea!" I replied.
On the cover page of her story, she wrote with a bold font "Illustrated by Frank Han" I was hired by her as an illustrator for the first time in my life. Since I've never drawn horses, I was a bit worried. To keep my promise, I needed to prepared. I dashed to the library to borrow some books about horses and found the encyclopedia of horses. Oh my god, horse was so compliated creature to draw. Just about to get discouraged, right next coner of the bookshelf I found the book on "How to draw horses" The step by step guide of drawing horse! Drawing horses was not so difficult after all. The book made me relieved.
After my daughter and I discussed on which scenes needed to be illustrated, we came up with a few moments of her story. Here are some of the piece I am working on now. Oh, by the way, the title of her story is "Cinnamon" I guess I need to use cinnamon color more.
