Greetings dear lovers of photography
In this opportunity I bring you a simple photograph of a perennial plant native to South Africa, and belonging to the family of the Iridaceae, it is the Gladiola, which is known in the scientific field with the name Gladiolus. It is a very showy plant and its inflorescences are distributed along its long spikes that can reach up to one meter in height, in the case of some species.
An interesting detail about this plant, is the origin of its name, since, it is assumed that it is due to Pliny the Elder, according to this version this writer, scientist, naturalist and Latin military man noticed the similarity that exists between the leaves of this plant and the Roman sword which they called gladius. There is another version, where it is related, that this flower was given to the Roman gladiators as a symbol of their triumph in battle, which is why, in time, this plant was known by the name of Gladiola, additionally, as a result of this fact this flower is also the symbol of Victory.
