As more things become automated, there's a lot of noise around Universal Basic Income, or UBI. The idea is that we can still have an economy that evolves based on people's choice of how they spend. If our means of income is replaced with automation, then a UBI will still grant us all the opportunity to have some say in what succeeds.

Some advocates aren't even worried about the robot uprising. Maybe it's just a basic human right to have some minimal involvement with the economy and a means to obtain the basics for living. I think it'd help with a lot of social services - less need for things like food assistance, disability assistance, etc.

There are already several blockchain UBI initiatives. The first one I found was mannabase, but I'm not wealthy enough to receive manna. I wish that was a joke. They require a mobile phone with an actual mobile number. If you have a voip number (like GoogleVoice or FreedomPop provide), you will not be permitted in their UBI distribution.

SwiftDemand has been my favorite so far. They provide 100 swifts each day and a marketplace to purchase or sell things using swifts. I like that there is an immediate utility. @foxe has been getting postcards from all over the world with her swifts. The blockchain doesn't exist, yet. They are giving out credits to eventually exist on a blockchain.

A new one for me is Enumivo. I've only just started looking at it, and don't know much about what they're doing.... except I get free stuff.

@steembasicincome isn't a universal income, but it is a basic income. You send 1 steem to them with the name of the steemian you'd like to sponsor. That steemian gets 1 share, and you get 1 share. You can sponsor another share for someone who's already been sponsored. It's just like a first enrollment - they get an additional share, AND you get another share. Def check them out!
