The term "silk road" refers to the ancient routes connecting Far East with Europe and Africa and took its name from the trade of silk, produced in China. We are talking about an era six to twenty centuries ago. When trading and traveling was a hard and potentially dangerous business. And the silk road was the most epic journey of that era.

Nothing to do with me, except that it gave me the inspiration to name my current travel!

The "olive oil road" is the small annual trip we make with traisto@traisto to harvest our olive groves. Nothing so fascinating as the exotic oriental routes that I mentioned but way above the average in terms of distance and (thanks to our choices) complexity :)

When people say "we are going to harvest our olives" they usually mean that they are close to their home, something like within an hour of driving, at the most.
Some may have to drive a bit longer and very few have to take a ferry to get there. We have to do it all, driving, taking the ferry and more driving in a trip of around thirty hours!

Not the most practical situation, for sure :)

Imagine that I just described the fastest way to get to our olive trees. An expensive and tiring trip especially when you have to take your car along. And in our case we do since the car is also a valuable tool during the harvest.

So we took the slow way, making this trip a short vacation that we needed anyway! We avoided motorways, big ports and stressful situations and instead, we drove through wonderful mountains, scenic little towns and a boat that reminds me the Greece of my childhood :)

Now, as the second day of our trip is coming to an end, I am relaxing drinking my cocoa and thanking ourselves that we took the long way!

And we are still on the "wrong" side of the island :)

I took those pictures with a Redmi Note 12s mobile phone and did some minor editing on the phone itself.
