Last Sunday I come across the #showcasesunday tag, an idea of @nonameslefttouse meant to revive old posts adding a new prospect. An idea that I found very appealing, so after last week's Portraits Flashback I am continuing with My travel to Parga.
I wrote the original post on the second month of my steem adventure and I have to admit that my editing skills back then were pathetic :)
So I reedited the pictures, I added a lot more and I hope this time you'll be able to appreciate the beauty of this marvelous Greek destination!
You see, I am particularly fond of the Ionian coast mainly because of the thriving flora and the incredible colors of the sea and Parga is my favorite town in the area!
Throughout it’s long and turbulent history it has been ruled by Normans, Venetians, French, English and Ottomans, till 1913 when Greece won in the Balkan Wars. The striking detail in the history is that the Ottoman Ali Pasha of Ioannina, was trying to conquer Parga for more than 20 years and finally he bought it from the English!
The castle that we see today is the third one that was built on the spot, since the previous two times it was demolished to the ground by invaders! Nevertheless the view from it is gorgeous and I especially loved it at dusk time.
But the morning view is equally beautiful, too!
Once you are there you will find a lot of wonderful beaches. Krioneri is practically in the town and it is as good as it looks. You can even swim to the little island of Virgin Mary across the bay.
For those who like the beach really long with a lot of umbrellas and sun beds or for those who love water sports there is Valtos, on the other side of the town.
In short distance from Parga you will find more amazing beaches and my proposal is to grab a boat and see them all. I am pretty sure that you will have an unforgettable ride.
And for heavens shake do not forget your mask. I made a promise to myself that next time I’ll be there I will do some underwater photography too.
All the pictures and the words are mine.
Thank you for reading and if you want to know more about me you can check out my introduction post.
