Art in all its forms, from painting to sculpture and from literature to performing, has always been fascinating me. And although I was never the guy that drifts from one gallery to the other and from one artistic event to the next, I had a lot of friends in the Athens School of Fine Arts and I was often involved in their exhibitions as well as in their experimentation.
But all that happened when I was much younger and especially since I left the city and whatever comes with an urban lifestyle, I have been absent from the world of art.
So when I was invited to attend the opening of an exhibition with art installations in the small town of Nafplio, I didn't know what to expect and to tell you the truth, I could never have guessed!
The exhibition took place in an old house that is no longer used as a residence and from the first steps in it, I got the feeling that the house is also part of the project. Maybe that's why details like the old electric switchboard seemed so relevant :)
I am quoting a few words from the artists themselves, about the project as well as their artistic identity.
KUNSTRUKT present the project NON PLACES.
An old house, stripped of its original status, turns for the visitor into an empty and transitional environment. Investigating the relationship of place and non-place, NON PLACES is proposed as an experiment in giving meaning to a specific space to negotiate, through appropriation and intervention, issues of otherness and identity in the modern era.
KUNSTRUKT is a group created in 2019 by three diverse artists having interaction as the starting point of artistic creation. Through the investigation of dynamic systems of natural and industrial materials, using modern expressive means, they outline the relationship between structure and disorder, visualizing contrasts that characterize the anthropological, social, political and ecological model of the modern world.

I realise that my pictures are just a very subjective and inadequate depiction of a work very complex and multidimensional. The loud sound from the televisions, the moving lights and the video projections can never be represented in picture but it is also the feeling of moving around this place that I can hardly describe, let alone illustrate in pictures.
The shooting took place after the exhibition was over so that I'll have the time and the space to photograph as I wished. And because it can be hard to grasp the size of those artworks, we asked a friend to pose next to them, as a comparison measure about their proportions.
Of course as I was looking the final photographs I realised that she became herself part of the installation and that I interfered even more to the original artwork!
As a photographer it was an amazing experience to take picture in this place, or should I say "non place". I only wish I was up to the task to illustrate more of the artists's intentions and less my own.
