After two days of cutting weeds, removing dead branches and tidying things up, the garden was almost descent. Nothing like it used to be when it had a full time gardener tending the trees, planting vegetables, keeping the weeds under control etc, etc, etc.
But coming here only twice each year, that's the best I can do. At least it doesn't look totally abandoned or even forsaken!
This is not my garden. It never was, although I have spend a lot of time in it, since my childhood and I have learned my first lessons in gardening right here. Long before those pomegranate trees were even planted.
But I do remember the vines always been there, hanging on the fence around the garden. I haven't eaten from those vines for ages but I still remember the taste of many of them!
As well as the small (but delicious) apples of the apple tree.
As I said, this is not my garden.
This is my grandfather's garden. Or should I say, was. My grandfather passed away but the trees he planted are still here to pretty up the garden and bless us with their fruits.
Tending this garden, apart from the obvious service for my parents and my grandmother that spend their summer there, is also a tribute to the memory of the man that created it, my very personal memorial service.
Although I know that he would disagree strongly with many of my practices, if he was alive :)
Now the rightful owner is my grandmother and she is more into flowers! Messing with dirt and planting vegetables was never her thing. But flowers and succulents are :)
The last pictures are from outside the house. The oleander hedge, that I am not very fond of it as a plant but I have to admit that it makes an excellent fence, a couple of conifers and the view from the balcony, just to give you an idea of what our "neighbourhood" looks like :)
