Today is the day for #wednesdaywalk, a challenge created by @tattoodjay that urges us to take a walk and share our pictures and thoughts about it. But today it is raining. Actually I have the feeling that since I told, a few months ago, that I live in a dry and arid place, it has been raining more than ever! Which is very good for the land, the flora and the whole ecosystem but I wasn't able to go for a walk. So I am diving into the depths of my vast archive, result of the 4 years of traveling around Greece and I invite you for a summer walk to a Greek island. I hope you don't mind :)

That's the first image of Skopelos you'll see, once the ferry is anchored to the port. It is the biggest settlement, the port and the capital of the island so it is rather impossible to miss it :)
Come with me all the way to the top of the hill and back to the port just in time for dinner!

First let's get it over with the boring stuff:

Skopelos (Greek: Σκόπελος, [ˈskopelos]) is a Greek island in the western Aegean Sea. Skopelos is one of several islands which comprise the Northern Sporades island group, which lies east of the Pelion peninsula on the mainland and north of the island of Euboea. It is part of the Thessaly region. Skopelos is also the name of the main port and the municipal center of the island.

There is only one port so the ferry just uses briefly the edge of it and the rest is for the fishing boats and any other vessel might come. If you are planing to stop by with your yacht, I am sure they will find a spot to squeeze you in :)

A cup of coffee or a cold refreshment under the hospitable shadow of this huge plane tree is probably a good idea before we start going uphills. And the name of the place "Platanos" which of course means "Plane Tree" in Greek!

If you have seen a few of my posts about Greek islands you should know the pattern by now. Narrow streets, a lot of pots with colorful flowers and a few white chapels here and there, are the main ingredients that compose the scenery. It is practically the same at all the islands but each and every one has its own unique beauty :)

At the higher part of the village there was a tavern with amazing view but probably opens later in the evening. No matter how amazing this spot is, you don't want to sit under the harsh Mediterranean sun to enjoy your lunch!
So lets take a panoramic shot and back to the narrow streets.

As we reach the sea level again there are many stores selling jewelry, clothes and any kind of souvenirs but it is getting late and the smell coming from the seaside taverns drives us straight to them!

And while we expect our order to be served the dedicated photographer (that's me :)) takes his tripod and goes for the last pictures of the day under the magical light of the dusk :)
