I am an old-fashioned guy (if not simply old) and my photographic education started in the darkroom, developing b&w films. Even later at the third year of the school of photography, when we dived into the mysteries of colour pictures, I was taught all the development techniques in the darkroom also. A much harder procedure, since everything has to happen in total darkness, no red or green light there, nothing at all.
Now that I work in digital, all those knowledge is still inside me and I use Lightroom (my favourite editting program) as a very comfortable and very well equipped darkroom. But I rarely do something digital that I couldn't have done in an analogue way, even with much more effort and time.
I am telling you all this to point out that when I edit a raw file I try not to be carried away by the digital easiness and when it comes to b&w, I am extra careful to justify everything I do.
So when 
I ended up with those pictures of a village that has changed very little during the last 50 years and I have seen old pictures to be sure for that. It is the same village that my grandfather spent most of his life and my father was born and raised. It is also the same village that I lived for 5 years, when I moved to Crete. I can say that I have a pretty good idea of how this place is now and how it used to be.
This warm monochrome edit reminds me a lot some old black and white photographs that I have seen that after many years have taken this brownish hue. Too bad I don't have any of those photographs with me to compare, they all are at my father's house in Athens.
