The 1st of May is the day to get out in the fields and cut flowers. At least that's what our traditions tell us to do. But we did that last week and with a much nicer weather, I might add!
Nevertheless I don't want to be the party pooper so I took a few shots of flowers to honour the tradition and to offer to you, as my new month wishes :)
I didn't go out in the fields though, just a stroll around the neighbourhood and the flowers on the sidewalks and the house's gardens.
And a few irrelevant pictures of the town, just to point out the surrounding context of those blooming :)
Edibles and flowers are all there to please our senses and decorate the concrete constructions that we are calling homes. That kitty below doesn't seem to relate to my admiration though. She just looks annoyed by me, intruding her privacy :)
The citrus fruits are the strong suit of the area. There are thousands of trees around the town but even in the streets and in almost every garden! And the smell of their blossoms this time of the year, is just breathtaking!
As I was taking the pictures an old lady talked to me from her balcony, proudly presenting a blooming bush in her garden. She had planted it many years ago, from a cutting that she brought from her village. And I could see her eyes sparkling as she was describing the original plant that she took the cutting from.
I guess that when we move we need something more than our luggage to bring with us. For some people a plant can make the connection between the former and the latter residence and make the new place more familiar!
Photography is supposed to be an objective image of reality. But is it really?
If you look closely in the picture above, there are some weeds next to the garbage bins. The same weeds are in the two pictures below. All the pictures are real. I just pointed and shot. I didn't even changed my lens or even the aperture!
But the reality above with the reality below are totally different.
Can they be both true?
Or am I, a shameless liar?
I guess this is an old-fashioned question. In the era that we are talking about the creative use of AI, I am still wondering if the choices of the photographer alter the same reality that he/she captures!
But, what can I say, I am an old-fashioned guy myself :)
For this shooting I used a canon 6D mark II with a canon EF 100mm macro lens attached, fixed at f/2.8 for all the pictures.
After all what's the point of having a fast lens if you don't use it as such?
