Howdy,

Many of my friends are stuck inside, thanks to the COVID-19 virus sweeping the world. My friends in Spain have much more strict isolation measures than I do in the center of the USA. Living in a small town surrounded by countryside does have its perks, and I wanted to share some of these signs of spring with those of you who may not be able to see them for yourselves.

A No-Snow-Globe

This photo is from the first stretch of warm days we had last week. With a macro lens, drops of water can act like miniature crystal balls. The world behind them is flipped and mirrored. Thos droplet was clinging to the end of a twig and the blue sky and puffy clouds appear captured inside it.

Anual Frog "Party"

The ponds have sprung to life. The sound of the frogs was absolutely deafening! These larger green frogs have a lower-pitch grumbling sound. It was difficult to hear over the smaller tree frogs' vocalizations.

And what are the frogs doing? Lets just say that, if they weren't green, they may have been blushing at the camera. This was a tadpole production party. Maybe it was their preoccupation with the task at hand that allowed me to get so close!

It's Melting! Meeeellttinggg!!!

The large ice formations at Triple Falls have completely melted away. The only remaining ice are the crystals in the space behind the falls (above) and a few iciles that formed overnight (below).

The temperature was cold enough to form icicles on Friday night. Saturday morning, I headed to the falls as they were beginning to melt. The next photo involved climbing into a somewhat precarious position and balancing while trying to take a shot of moving water.

Waterfall in a Droplet

The lower tier of Triple Falls is captured perfectly in the drop! Here is where a camera upgrade would have made a huge difference. It took about 200 shots for me to get the focus right and the twelve-year-old 7D's sensor doesn't handle higher ISO levels well. THe photo came out nice, but the image quality isn't as good as I would like.

Other than getting out for some socially-isolated hikes and photography, I have been working from home. My eyesight and dyslexia are proving to be major barriers to my success, but there is potential. I have been asked more frequently to field calls in Spanish or translate correspondence. Maybe I'll be able to move into a language-based role. With almost everything online, I can use text-to-speech software.

Wishing you all health, happiness, and enough toilet paper!
