To the more astute observers of the world here, they may be aware that Russia begun to build troop numbers on their Ukrainian border. All of us would remember when in 2014 Russia annexed Crimea from Ukraine, but the current fear is that they will try finish the job and take on Ukraine.
First off, war between NATO and Russia is in no way imminent, there are current tensions building that if not quelled could lead to something very unfortunate occurring. I want to give a crash course on the situation.
Obviously, Russia would need a very good reason to invade, and that is provided in two ways. The first is the more traditional reason for conquest- land and resources. The second is slightly more complicated, being a mix of giving the finger to the West while allowing Putin to quell any unrest in his party and in Russia. History has shown that war is a very potent force for uniting a country, and Russia could very well convince their population that Ukraine provides a threat to them, regardless of how unrealistic the narrative is.
If NATO refuses to react, they will lose an incredible amount of credibility. If they simply try to appease Putin, they will lose power while Russia gains it along with confidence. America has already stated that if anything happens they will react, raising the stakes. A British general has also stated that tensions are currently even higher than they were during the Cold War, a bold claim.
Interestingly, Russia has also been at the centre of another controversy, namely, the Belarus-Polish border crisis. If Russia is actually encouraging that crisis, then there is perhaps a chance of a sort of hybrid war being fought against the West. This is certainly a scary prospect, and I hope that both sides realise the futility of war and the damage it contains far outweighs any potential benefit.
