My brother and I and some of our friends hiked 5040 last June, and it was awesome. You start the hike from a logging road, normally a vehicle can take you straight to the trailhead but our can couldn't make it (too low to the ground). So basically it added an extra 5 kms in 30C heat. We ran completely out of water just getting to the trailhead, but fortunately there were streams along the way.
After you get to the trail head you start your way up. Yup it's exhausting, you just end up falling down and sit under a tree until you get your breath back. But there were great views along the way.
That's Triple Peak across the valley, we hiked it 2 months later. What's crazy is going from basically a rainforest to alpine. We went from hiking on grass and dirt to walking through knee deep snow!
You end up camping at this frozen lake, we made a platform out of branches to put our tents on, coaxed some embers we found back to life and had a fire and enjoyed the views.
Yes that's my view while I was having a great poop!
