Hello Splinterlandians! Those who know me know that the Sneak ability was my absolute favorite ability during the Chaos Legion expansion era. That was because there were many good cards with the Sneak ability back then, and I enjoyed attacking enemy units from behind. In the Rebellion expansion, it was a little different because I didn't have as many cards with the Sneak ability. However, with the Conclave Arcana expansion, some cool cards with Sneak were introduced again, so I'm using the ability more often.
As part of today's Splinterlands Social Media Challenge, I would like to present a battle from the Modern Format in which I rediscovered my love for the Sneak ability. As always, I will go into detail about the individual cards and my strategy. Enjoy reading!
Rulesets, Manacap and Splinters:
Two rulesets were active in this battle. The first is Four's a Crowd, which is not relevant to my strategy as I don't need a particularly large number of units. The second is Weak Magic, which is not essential to my strategy but definitely helps. The fact that armor is stronger makes my strategy even better.
The mana cap is 35, which is sufficient for me. Since only four units can be played, it is actually helpful that the mana cap is not too high, otherwise I would have had to play more expensive cards.
A total of four Splinters are available: Fire, Water, Earth, and Dragon. For my strategy, I particularly need the Water Splinter and, ideally, the Dragon Splinter, both of which are playable here.
Lineup and Strategy:
| Position | Card | Explanation |
|---|---|---|
| Archon | Since I don't currently have a usable Water Archon, I decided on Akane and, as already announced, chose the Water Splinter. I think I've already said enough about Akane in the past, she's just really strong thanks to her Ambush ability. | |
| #1 | I placed Commander Slade in the first position, who is a pretty strong tank in the front row. He also benefits from his good armor value thanks to the Weak Magic ruleset. | |
| #2 | Next comes Abyssal Elemental, which also benefits from the active ruleset but is not essential to the strategy. Nevertheless, it is a fairly powerful card that can be played frequently. | |
| #3 | In the third position, I play one of my key cards, Tidal Tsunamist. It's a Sneak attacker with really solid stats, and its Repair ability makes it a perfect fit for the lineup and the matchup. | |
| #4 | Closing out the last position is Captain Fellblade, one of the strongest units with the Sneak ability in the entire Modern meta. This is mainly due to the fact that the card has two attack types, one of which is Magic Attack. |
The strategy is clearly aimed at having Tidal Tsunamist and Captain Fellblade attack the rear enemy units. Since this is the main focus, I have given both units the Ambush ability through Akane. Meanwhile, Commander Slade and Abyssal Elemental are supposed to ensure that my two Sneak attackers can attack from the rear positions for as long as possible. The Weak Magic ruleset is obviously beneficial to me, as almost all of my cards benefit from armor. My strategy is vulnerable to enemy Sneak attackers, for example, but I had to take that risk.
Battle:
Here you can see my lineup in the battle.
My opponent also chose cards that fit well with the Weak Magic ruleset. Conclave Tracker with the Repair ability and Venka the Vile with the Piercing ability. I already mentioned Commander Slade for my lineup. The only thing that confuses me a little is the choice of Archon, but I assume he simply didn't have a better one.
After the ambush round, my two Sneak Attackers had already eliminated Venka the Vile. This means that my strategy had already paid off before the actual battle had even begun.
At the start of the second round, the enemy's Conclave Tracker also has very few health points left. Meanwhile, the health points and armor of my units are still looking very good.
After the second round, only the enemy Commander Slade is still alive, and he has already lost some health points. He is facing superior forces, as I have not lost a single unit yet.
During the third round, I was able to win the battle without losing any of my own units. Overall, I think the victory was pretty secure.
GG to my opponent @riverwind!
Ultimately, my opponent was completely unprepared for attacks from behind, which allowed my strategy to reach its full potential. Among other things, my good armor values and the Repair ability of Tidal Tsunamist allowed me to keep my units alive very well.
Last Words:
Personally, I'm very happy to have two powerful Splinter cards with the Sneak ability again, which I can use to build a strategy around. It's still one of my favorites, and opponents don't often expect attacks from behind.
But I've written enough now, it's your turn. What do you think of this strategy? Were you already familiar with it? I would love to hear your thoughts in the comments. As always, the @commentrewarder service is activated. Thank you for reading this far, and I wish you all the best!
Hallo Splinterlandians!
Viel Spa脽 beim Lesen!
Rulesets, Manacap und Splinters:
Zwei Rulesets waren in diesem Battle aktiv.
| Position | Karte | Erkl盲rung |
|---|---|---|
GG an meinen Gegner @riverwind!
