The Ruff is a migratory bird that visits Austria during bird migration and can be found here in spring as well as in autumn as they migrate from africa in spring to the northern part of europe and migrate back in autumn from northern europe to africa. It has a very beautiful breding plumange, especially the males and they are popular for their breeding plumage. The females on the other hand are more discrete in their appearance. It is always interesting how many different birds visit Austria during the bird migration in spring and autumn and it is a great time for me to be able to find some a little more exotic birds here that usually don't stay in Austria but stop for a short break.

I always find it exciting to read on a bird tracking App wich birds are curently visiting our region and sometimes I try to find them when there is a very exotic or seldom bird. Then I try to find out the exact location where it was reported and drive ther to see if I have the luck to also see it and sometimes it is possible since a lot of the birds stay for some days and do some rest before they continue their trip and fly further south or north depending on the time of the year.
