Hello hivians. It's already Friday and this is going to be the last weekend of the year. It's time to enjoy but in moderation as we don't want to have a bad start to the year. From here I take this opportunity to congratulate you on the new year in advance and wish you the best.
Today I wanted to talk to you about something that fascinates me and that is the materials that nature gives us. One of the most spectacular there is is spider silk.
Spider silk is an incredible material with a large number of properties. The best known are lightness, resistance and elasticity but there are many others that I would like to tell you about.
Biocompatibility which means that it is compatible with other biological tissues. This is why it can be used in medicine either for sutures or some types of implants.
It is resistant to UV rays, has great adhesive capacity, has good thermal conductivity which makes it useful for industry and is also biodegradable so it is environmentally friendly.
Much research is being done to create synthetic spider silk since natural spider silk is clearly unviable due to availability. And its uses cover many fields.
In the textile industry as technical and high-performance clothing. In electronics as sensors. In medicine as sutures. In protection such as bulletproof vests. In construction to create improved composite materials.
And I could go on and on because its possible applications will be almost infinite. Nature has taught us and teaches us every day what is the correct path to follow.
