Hello friends of the community @hive-140084, continuing with the thematic Wednesdays dedicated to women. Today I am going to dedicate this post to the Mexican artist Magdalena Carmen Frida Kahlo Calderón, better known simply as Frida Kahlo.
For those who don't know her, Frida Kahlo is a Mexican painter from the early 20th century. She does not have a very extensive body of work and she died quite young at 47 years of age. Her work would be very current since she mainly painted self-portraits. She did this because she was a realist painter who wanted to express the difficulties of life. And Frida Kahlo's life was not easy due to a bus accident that would mark her life.
She, like her, also marked her life by being married to the Mexican painter Diego Rivera. And it is this relationship between her and her husband that has made this painter an icon in her country and around the world. We could say that the relationship was what today we would call an open relationship. If it creates controversy today, you can imagine what it caused in Mexico at the beginning of the 20th century.
Frida showed herself to be a strong woman at a time when this was very difficult to do. She was also very politically active at a time when politics permeated everything. Today she is a symbol of feminism because of her fight for the right of women to have their own life and not be subordinated to anyone.
