In 2018 a family of 5 is about to be in a danger they didn't see coming. Megan Short is a loving mother of 3 children and married to Mark Short Sr. Their Children are Liana ( 8 years old ) , Mark Jr ( 5 years old ) and Willow ( 2 years old). The family currently resides in Shillington Pa in a $400,000 home. Mark and Megan were experiencing marital issues and she was in the process of taking the kids to live somewhere else. Mark had other plans for his family and didn't want that to happen.
For the 2 years before this tragic incident, Megan spent all her time caring for a baby who was born with a congenital heart defect. Willow wasn't expected to survive. There were numerous news stories, documentaries, articles and web cloves talking about the family. Donations were made in attempts to help them with their new baby and her medication to not reject the transplant. Many studies show that parents of children who are chronically ill are at a higher chance of divorce even after the child is no longer sick. Risk increases if the child was to pass from the sickness. That being said Megan Short was speaking to other people and looking for a way out of the marriage. She was seeing other people more specifically a woman. She ended it with the woman at some point and was trying to make things work with Mark but there comes a time when enough is enough.
Numerous reports have stated that Mark was a family man and would do anything to keep his family together, that all he did was work and things for his family. That being said, the idea of his wife leaving and him losing his family was probably destroying him inside. Megan was to be moving into a new apartment in bucks county with her kids on august 6th.
The morning of the 5th Mark had taken the children to Hershey park for the day. When Megan arrived at the home in Shillington to take them to the new apartment she had parked in the driveway and went inside. The night went on and she never arrived at the apartment. A family member was concerned and contacted a neighbor from the house to see if Megan was still at the house because she was not returning any phone calls or messages. The neighbor confirmed that 2 cars were in the driveway but was not able to get any contact with Megan or Mark. Megan's mom called the police the next afternoon. Police forced their way into the home by going in through the kitchen window and had found everyone deceased in the living room
Mark had gathered his children and then wife in the living room of their home and shot each person and even the family dog. After he had shot his children wife and dog he took a few moments to write a suicide note cofessing to what he had done and why. Reports say that the children were laying in the living room like they were having a sleepover. They were in pajamas, and had pillows and blankets around them.
The police were called on her husband a few weeks before murdering his family. Police advised Megan on how to get protection from abuse in order to keep him away from her. She told officers that she would do that the next day but she never followed through. Had she followed through with the PFA the police would have been able to reject his right to carry a firearm. A few days before doing so he bought a 5 shot .38 caliber gun in Lancaster county.
This situation was sad and leaves a lot of things unanswered.
