The snow is melting off Mt. Spokane with all the rain we have had recently. Deer creek originates on the side of the mountain and I am the last property before the confluence of Deer creek and the Little Spokane River. This means I see the absolute max flow in the creek. Every year we see some pretty high flows through the tunnel as can be seen by the water marks left on the walls when the water recedes. Right now the water is about 3 feet deep through the 10 foot wide tunnel. If I could measure the water velocity I could determine the flow rate.
This is the point where the water splits into our little channel of the creek. The water is getting backed up by debris and the main flow side is a foot higher than our side. This has caused the water to flood into the flats near the stream.
Our tunnel is very full and I am actually happy that the debris is blocking some of the water. The right side of the tunnel has started to get eaten away and the soil loss is getting worse. I have a large amount of remediation work to do in order to keep the side of our road from getting undermined. The last thing we need is the tunnel failing and loosing our entry to the property.
