It grows on most all the rocks in the creek and lives through the freezing winters, heat of the summers, lack of water, and inundated by water. The growth appears to be quite slow because over the past 10 years we have owned the property I have seen the plant grow very little. It is always green and generally it has this same appearance. The vast majority of the plant grows above the water line in open air, but it is obviously okay with being wet since it grows in the stream. I really need a Mosses of the Pacific Northwest guidebook for identifying the huge variety on the farm.
