I have seen these flowering in years prior but I never paid much attention to them, "it's just an Iris". Well yesterday as I was filling the bird and sheep waters I noticed this bright purple flower on a stalk amongst some of the plum trees. I made a note of it and after finishing my chores I nearly forgot about it as my mind was on other things at that point. As i was walking back to the house I caught the tint of purple out of the corner of my eye and stopped for these shots.
Seriously, these colors are outstanding and amazing the striped pattern. The morning sun was at my back and gave the flower the perfect lighting.
Iris normally have a few of the petals upturned while the others are down turned. I bent back the 3 upturned petals to open up the face of the flower and expose the center and stripes to the sun fully.
It is amazing what can be seen if one just pays attention to our surroundings. I have seen the flowers before but never paid attention to it and kept walking by them. The old saying "stop and smell the roses" can also be "stop and look at the flowers". Just the act of paying attention to the flowers will lead to smelling them, observing them, and appreciating them.
The other Iris in the yard are still not flowering yet with this one being the lone star so far. I am not sure the colors of the other Iris but if they are anything close to this I will be stoked.
