I was in the greenhouse yesterday morning and I noticed that I am getting a flower popping on one of my little citrus plants. All the house plants are doing outstanding in the shaded end of the greenhouse and are putting on tons of new growth.
The schefflera is even getting tons of new growth on it which it hasn't done in a long time. I need to pot it up for sure as it is a bit low on soil in the pot.
Much of my day was taken with the continued weed pulling. I started where I had left off and kept filling bucket loads and dumping them in the wheelbarrow just outside the fence.
I found that the potatoes are kicking butt and the onions I planted with them are sprouting.
I managed to get 2/3 of the way up the fence line before it was getting hot and I had more than filled the wheelbarrow.
The animals dove into the pile as soon as I had it dumped in their pen.
I was in the coop looking for a bucket for eggs and I heard a peep from inside and I looked in to find a hen with a pair of chicks. I went out and closed the outer door to their coop then went and got the brooder hut all cleaned out and setup for them.
With it all setup I was able to go in and grab her and the chicks all at once and get them in the hut. I have to do this to protect the chicks as if I don't they invariably drown, get eaten, squished, or lost somehow. We have a couple more hens in the nest boxes sitting so I have to watch for them to pop.
We also have a hen and a duck in the hay bale sitting. Our completely useless male duck has only ever produced a couple viable eggs so who knows if she is sitting on anything worth while.
The storms are coming and they are to be big. I needed to install the rain guard over the upper window to the greenhouse to keep the rain from falling in the open window and getting the fan or wood wet.
The mock orange is exploding all a=over the farm and the swallowtails have been massing on them. The butterflies seem to love it more than most other plants.
In the later afternoon I managed to get another bucket filled with pulled weeds and I found that I actually do have a couple Luffa that have sprouted. The acorn squash I planted after them have all popped so I will have to let them run on the ground while the luffa gets the fence. Still so many weeds to pull.
Soaking was nice but the damn mosquitoes are voracious and were minimally effected by the heat of the air over the water. I am going to have to install the canopy and bug netting soon if they don't die out.
The storms are inbound today and the clouds are already moving over. I have to ensure everything is covered for the forecasted downpours, I want to head up to Inklers for a bit today to check it out before flying it on Saturday/Sunday, I should wash clothes, and I really need to make more tortillas but am reticent about using the stove with how hot it is supposed to be today.
