This is my first catch/kill of the year and I couldn’t be more happy except if there were two in the trap! Over the years I have had an ongoing battle with the vermin to try and keep them from destroying my garden. Prior years I have had a much more reactionary tendency but this year I am being more proactive in my hunting them down. This is the first one to feel the farmer wrath.
Look at the front legs and the teeth on the pest. Those claws and teeth do insane amounts of damage to plants and are an evolutionary tool unfortunately bestowed upon them.
The size of this thing was over 6 inches long and it weighed a few ounces easily. You can see on the back end it was getting chewed on by another gopher that was in the tunnel behind this one when it got trapped. While I am not happy that there are more, I am happy that it showed its existence so clearly. While I am pretty annoyed that I did not get more traps when at the store yesterday I will be going today to stock up on an arm full.
