Awesome post, much appreciated and exactly what I needed to help me with current changes I am making to several strategies for my project(s) on Hive.

USER RETENTION
That is the biggest problem here in my personal opinion.

Absolutely agree and if my character type was not like a dog-on-a-bone when I check things out I would not have invested as much time and money here as I have. I do not understand why there should be community funding used to pay some Hive builder to onboard people to hive. It is a recipe to make it easier for some to lie, cheat and steal from a community. Everyone of us is able to promote our own referral link to get people to join Hive. DHF subsidizing an affiliate like marketing program raises concerns about fairness. Those with more influence seem to get access to more funding and there is questionable check/balance to measure and prove value returned from such funding. I vote to fund newbies and not projects/Hivers at the top of the food chain. Especially so when a project is mostly about getting signups and not about hand holding newbies in our unique community.

Quality is very subjective.

True and the word by itself is as valuable as an opinion with no facts. Many people use the word but do they understand how to measure it? How does one define quality in an operation?

I have been in the quality improvement business for a few years and learned a lot from Quality Management Institute training. To know quality is to know how it compares to a defined standard. Where can I read about Hives quality standards?

True again. I remember many years ago, being a poor person in a community. We went to the local dump to pick through garbage. You know, there was some quality items found. As I learn more about the people, products and services supporting our Hive community I see missed opportunities and misguided objectives. For example, a whale has lots of resources and time to complain and punish based on some undocumented standard. This behaviour is not a proactive approach to improving the well being of our Hive community. I am sure there is a better way to grow value in our community without raising fear and generating hard feelings from some down voting attack on a suspected cheater or vote buyer. The logic is not clear to me. I suppose stealing is not stealing until you get caught. Or is it just another case where a smart person is behind a dumb move. Sometimes the smartest people are behind the dumbest ideas. Especially so when emotions and dislike is the driving force behind a particular course of action taken.

I know some of the coding is going to be antiquated soon and a major fork will be coming.

Hopefully it will include making changes to the 200 value chosen for the maximum number of open trade orders per Hive account. You have a group of people deciding on limits and configuration based on their concerns. Standard? I challenged this and I was saddened that my need was not looked upon as being important enough to make an improvement today. I was told it could be something we would consider changing in a future update. As a business owner I see this type of response as creating additional third party risk. If an ecosystem makes it more difficult for active Hivers to build and grow on Hive that is not conducive to retaining those who do join Hive.
