Today I have hiked in the most bizarre and surreal landscape I could possibly imagine. In the National Park of Timanfaya in Lanzerote, it feels as if you are in a different planet. A series of volcano eruptions in the 1700s lasted for about a century and the lava flow now covers 1/4 of the island! What you see as black on the picture is all lava, and this is truly only a tiny little area compared to the entirety of the park. The orange color in the foreground is lava stones covered in moss, and on the second picture it's white moss covering the stones. Isn't it incredible that there is life even in the harshest environment?
