Visit Venice during Christmas and you will have the whole place to yourself. A beautiful mist permanently hangs over town, the little canal streets are empty, you can patiently examine the incredible architecture, without the obstruction of crowds. My favorite buildings in Venice are those close to the canals that have not been perfectly maintained, like this one here. I love the contrast of the fancy gondola against the crippling walls.
