What did my Ordinary Sunday look like?
Sunday is the rest day for all the employees from public and private companies. However, Saturday is also the rest day for government employees. The common denominator of all the rest days is Sunday.
Saturday night, I would always tell my husband about my Sunday activities. I always told him that tomorrow would be Sunday and Sunday would be church day. He is always in charge of waking me up early since the Catholic mass in our town always starts at 8:30 am.
Ordinarily, he wakes me up at 8:00 am and I have only 30 minutes to prepare for the mass. He will buy food outside for our breakfast but sometimes we will have bread and milk if we prepare it before Sunday.
Even though the Catholic church is just a walking distance from our house, he will take me to the church using either the motorcycle bike or the minivan that we own. My husband just once in a blue moon attends the mass, no matter how I convince him, still his decision is final. I just always include him in my prayers while attending the mass.
Attending mass has many purposes in my life. First, it allows me to reflect on my previous week, what I did, and what I must do. It gives me a “me time” telling my worries to the Almighty One and asking for guidance for another week to survive on.
Another purpose is it is another way to be away from technology. I have more than 1 hour of not looking at my phone or laptop making my eyes relax. When I attended mass, I did not bring my phone; I just left it at home. Even when I attend mass in another town, I would let my husband hold my phone so I would not be tempted to look at it. Doing so, helps me focus on the reason why I attended.
Afterward, I went home walking or sometimes, my husband would fetch me from the church. Depending on his mood too.
This is always my ordinary Sunday went.
