Today’s news of the terrorist attack in Barcelona breaks our hearts. Beautiful Barcelona, one of the stops that we took on our ‘Marrymoon’ (https://steemit.com/travel/@fivepoints/our-marrymoon-travels-1-why-marrymoon) when we got married. We spent 9 glorious days in Barcelona and it quickly became one of our favorite cities! The food! Amazing food, some simple yet, delicious. The wine! The hospitality! Barcelona, a big city with a small town charm. Collins walked from the east side of Barcelona to our apartment at 2:00 am and the city was quiet and peaceful and he never felt unsafe.
These awful, hideous cowards specifically chose Las Ramblas to purposefully kill people, mostly tourists. Here’s a picture we took while strolling on Las Ramblas (Leah is in a black coat on the right) and you can see how crowded this area is. It’s like New York’s Times Square or Bourbon Street in New Orleans.
Las Ramblas is lined with shops, restaurants, and street vendors. The terrorists crashed the van just past the La Boqueria Market - a gigantic public market with wonderful fresh meat, produce, cheese and an array of other food in a bustling space. Grab a glass a wine and stroll the market. Just look how many people were there when we visited (and this was in the winter, today there were probably so many more shoppers!).
Here’s a map of where the van was driven down Las Ramblas...the black rectangle shows where La Boqueria Market is located on Las Ramblas.
We must not let terrorists change our lives. We must still go out to stores and markets. We must prove that these horrible tactics will not scare us away.
We can’t wait to go back to Barcelona and proudly stroll down Las Ramblas again.
