I don't think you need to be paranoid. The official numbers are fake, which could be good or bad depending on how you view things.
The numbers from Hubei are generally what's pushing the death rate so high. Out of all the deaths (427), 414 comes from Hubei.
So the death rate of about 2%; 100%x 427/(20704) is what has most people afraid.
In Hubei itself there are 13522 cases reported, and 414 deaths. or 100%x(414/13522); about 3.06%.
Outside of Hubei, the deaths are a mere 13. So 13 deaths out of 7182 cases. Or about 0.181%

I would trust that one providence screwed up bigly, rather than the rest of the world-including the world outside of china. Perhaps Hubei don't have the means to count the number of infections in which case the number of infections there could be 17x what is being reported, or they don't have good medical care. What is reported to be going on in Hubei is probably just theory and conspiracy.

I wouldn't worry about it more than the ordinary flu at this point. But it couldn't hurt to have 6 months of cash ahead and non-perishable foods.
