Belgium - Brussels : Cardboard tents are given to homeless people
Today I read a great blog writing from @arbitrarykitten.
It was about how our perspectives shape our behaviours.
This is the link of the full article and I really recommend, it is a good read.
Inside this article there was a story written by her last summer.
For the ones who are lazy enough to read the full article I copy and paste it.
This made me ashamed of being a member of human kind.
Checking the newspapers, I saw the following news in BBC.
These tents are produced by a local job rehabilitation center and the assembly was done in Lantin Prison workshop.
The project is called Orig-Ami which stands for Original , Friend but also the name of a Japanese paper folding art.
This is a good name since these tents are made from cardboard and can be folded to carry in a backpack.
Why cardboard ? 2 reasons :
- Tents are not allowed by law in Brussel streets
- Homeless people refuse to go to dormitories allocated to them because pets are no allowed...
Living all these time on the street, bearing the humiliating and pityfull looks in peoples eyes, these people refuse to leave their best friends for the comfort of a warm house.
This melts my heart...
These tents, if they are adopted by the homeless will be produced at a quantity of several hundereds for next year.
The tents are demonstrated to public on Friday with association of a charity organization l'Appel-du-Coeur which also supplies backpacks and food for homeless people.
Sometimes we people do good things...but sometimes.
Stay positive.
