What Are Ecency Points & How To Use Them To Your Advantage

Want to take your Hive game to the next level? This blog is for you, especially if you are a newbie on Hive. I have been publishing for more than a year now on this platform and I got to know about it only a few weeks ago. Let's start!

What Is Ecency?

If you don't know already, then Hive account@ecency is a very cool Hive Frontend (UI) developed by Hive account@good-karma and the team. It was known as eSteem on Steem Blockchain but then rebranded to Ecency after Hive was created back in 2020. It was a great thing to happen since Ecency sounds much better than eSteem. It has a web version and is also available on mobile (iOS & Android) & desktop.

What Are Ecency Points?

Ecency Points are the in-platform currency of Ecency. They are minted automatically and rewarded to all users for various social activities they perform on the platform.

For example - Posting a blog from ecency can earn you up to 15 points, comment - 5 points, and retweet - 1 point. There's no limit to earning them which is really cool. The more you use the platform and perform various operations, the more point you can generate.

How To Earn?

There are four unique ways to acquire these points:

1. Delegate: You can delegate a minimum of 1000 HP to Hive account@ecency to earn points daily in addition to a 100% Hive curation reward. This makes it a great investment over other projects that provide rewards for delegating to them.
2. Social Operations: As mentioned above, the best way to earn them is to perform different functions on Ecency.
3. Use Ecency: The more you use it, the more points you can earn. They are called heartbeat points. Keep checking it often and they keep coming.
4. Directly Buy: Apart from earning, you can directly buy points from your points wallet.

How To Utilize?

There are three great ways to utilize them and build an edge on Hive:

1. Boost: You can give your post a little boost using points. 150 points will get you a $1 upvote from Hive account@ecency. It's generally more since the whole trail upvotes you. xD
2. Promote: Promotion is a great service that would put your blog in between different feeds you explore on the application. It's an underrated feature!
3. Gift: This is one of my favorite features on the app. Hive account@melinda010100 does it the best. She gifts points to people from Hive Engagement League hosted by Hive account@abh12345. A really cool way to reward Hive users & promote ecency at the same time. Win-win for everyone!

Newbies Should Use This Opportunity

New users on Hive can leverage this opportunity to earn points for their activity. Since they do not get many upvotes in their early days, it's a great way to get them via Boost feature. They can also use the Promote feature to get more eyeballs at least on Ecency's Frontend which is one of the most used UIs on Hive.
