Comic tradition is introducing as you said skin and costume changes but not that simply. For example costume change its an entire different thing. You change a costume to add a more cool one, a more upgraded version etc etc like every person does with his clothes. The skin change basically happens when a hero or villain dies, there is an alternative universe and stuff like that. If you have on chapter 1-2-3 black panther as a black guy and then at chapter 4 as a white guy it will fail miserably.

People actually want reboots and remakes of books/comics/historical events and that's why the superhero genre made that much money. They don't want to see their favorites characters that they grew up with as an entire different person.

If you want to do something fresh create something entirely new like for example in that genre of superheroes, the boys.
