This reminds me of the Witcher books and games...less so of tv show. In Witcher world neutrality sometimes pays off. nilfgaard empire had a small autonomous duchy- Toussaint. from what I remember they had no real army. only some knights-errants. So instead of blowing a local treasury on maintaining a real army they made wine art partied. And no one bothered attacking them. Geralt even mentions that Toussaint feels like a land of fairy tales.

The witchers themselves also most of the time stayed(or tried to stay) neutral. They lived in a nice (even if ruined castle), played cards, slept with sorceresses and fought monsters who were becoming more and more rare. Seems like minding your own business is at times the best strategy.😛

as for our world. I don't think that I would trust any person or country with weapons of mass destruction. At the same time I see no way to convince a few crazy people to get rid of their weapons and live normal life like humans...
