Sometimes sound can speak louder to me than words, music being one of them when I'm at a place of not knowing what to do or who to turn to, I turn to music. Coming from a background where I was immersed in the music business I met all sorts of people, some talented, some not so talented but those who didn't have talent had charisma and stage presence that it really didn't matter that they couldn't sing, very much like it is today. I'm not judging, I'm just saying...!
Music from all genres appeal to me, I like rock, pop, metal, classical and some instrumentals but mainly I like rap, R&B, funky house and reggae, I'm listening to reggae right now as I write this post. One of the bands I've got close to and know the members are Misty in Roots, a London roots band formed in the 1970s who were activists around the time of the Southall riots. If you want to learn more about the Southall riots look it up on Youtube. Their followers are diverse in terms of race, culture and or religion, that's how it should be and that's how I like it, THE HUMAN RACE.
Misty in Roots travel around the world and play to hundreds of thousands of people worldwide with their conscious sound and remind us that we're not in control, when we think we are and try to be. 'Poor and Needy' being one of their many tracks speaks to me on a conscious level and on this occasion rather than rocking to the sound, it's the words that I rock to. This video will not appeal to everyone but it's worth hearing the message expressed.
