OpenSteem is an open source steem metadata standard established by https://www.asksteem.com to encourage cross compatibility between applications built on blockchain steem.
OpenSteem also supports the insertion of media types such as video, images, and audio directly to blockchain steem. So applications that comply with OpenSteem no longer need to use a separate HTTP hosting service to serve this type of content.
If you are an app developer over blockchain steem, you can be embed the OpenSteem project when building new functionality into an application you develop, it also uses standard documented open metadata ideas for your blockchain, possibly even wanting to retrofit existing code to meet specification of this project.
