Yep, as you read it, I lost two jobs in the same month. I know what you are thinking, this isn’t exactly something I should be screaming at the top of my lungs to the world but, honestly, it wasn’t my fault in either of them.
The first, a restaurant where I had worked as a manager for the last two years goes out of business, out of nowhere, and leaves all of its workers unemployed. Including me.
Yeah, not my fault.
And then, I got a job interview in another restaurant for the position of kitchen assistant. “Okay, not my thing,” I thought, “but I really need the money.” It’s funny when the universe doesn’t give a shit about what you need, huh?
The pay sucked, but I expected that since the place wasn’t as fancy as the one I used to work at but still, at least I had a job, right? “Nope. Think again, buddy” the universe spoke up.
On my second day, the boss told me they had made a mistake when they said how much I was going to earn and turns out it was going to be a lot less than previously agreed. In fact, it was significantly less considering the number of hours I’d have to work.
"Okay, I can deal with that... I guess".
But on top of that, the work environment was the freaking worse. And that was the last straw. I could have dealt gracefully with the idea of earning like a kid on his first job in McDonalds. Well, now that I come to think about it, he’d be probably earning more. But the fact that the owners were so hostile to each other to the point they even treated me like shit while I was working my ass off for them was what it made me open my eyes.
And I quitted.
The stress took its toll on me due to the number of violent situations I had to witness so, after giving it enough thought, I decided to quit. I realized that my mental health was way more important than the money I was going to earn.
And honestly? Best decision ever made. I’m lucky enough to have a supportive family and a girlfriend who stands by my side no matter what, and they understand that sometimes it’s not all about the money.
It's going to be the first time in a long time that I start a new year without a job, but I guess that’s just something everyone needs to go through some time in life. I hope this 2k18 brings me a huge surprise!
Side note: I’m a musician, and since I’m unemployed I could really use any income I can get. So, if you are a film-maker that needs a soundtrack, a video-game developer who needs a sound designer or if you need, in general, some music producing services, I’m here for you. You can find me in Discord as ffodie#9314.
