The issue with tithing is much about what religion leaders interpret it to be with the book of Malachi where it says there's a curse for not paying tithes. However, the Bible says Jesus fulfilled the law, which means the curse of Malachi no longer have effects.
Jesus teaching on giving were not on tithing, His mentioned on tithing was on the negative. Read Mathews 23:23
“Woe to you, teachers of the law and Pharisees, you hypocrites! You give a tenth of your spices—mint, dill and cumin. But you have neglected the more important matters of the law—justice, mercy and faithfulness. You should have practiced the latter, without neglecting the former.
