It seems to me that this concept of leadership has not been adequately explained by books on leadership, or that the concept is so ambiguous that most people can’t really understand or that some people have simply failed to read about leadership and just learn from those they perceived to be leaders.

It is said that “readers are leaders,” how then did we come to this point where we find people that do not have a clue about leadership in leadership positions? I think that’s a question we should ask ourselves and make it a topic for another day.

The truth is we are all leaders in whatever situation or position we find ourselves. We must learn and be ready to take responsibilities and stop pointing fingers and saying “this aren’t this or that, because of him or her,” only cowards do that and we are better than that.

Let me share with you my views about leadership as a concept. If you are leading people or really desire to lead a lot of people in the nearest future, please take note.
As a leader, you have to be ready to have a lot of followers. These followers will need you to take them to their various destinations. Since individuals are different, they can’t be headed in the same direction. Let’s assume that their destinations are points A, B, C … Z. You as a leader must have been to all these points or you must know people that have been to these points and are willing to take you there. Then you can take your followers to their desired destinations or better still, connect them with someone who will. Simply put, you have to be a networker and a problem solver. If you are not ready to do that, you have no business been a leader. Forget it.

It’s true that the youths of today must wake up to their responsibilities and take up leadership positions. But I must state it very clear that it is only those that have been trained and also retrained themselves to become leaders that should be supported.
We don’t need half-baked individuals to lead us simply because we want youthful leaders. If we support such people, our story might get worse.
We need young people who have a great vision for the people they are currently leading, we need young people who have influence, we need young people that have a track record of self-discipline, we need young people that their followers can vouch for, we need young people that have built and worked with smart teams, we need young people that are not just determined but unstoppable.

A leader must be cooked, just like food. If a food is not cooked, it can never be done and ready for eating. Similarly, if an individual has not gone through the process of personal development and preparation for leadership tasks, such individuals should never be voted to lead. This is no discrimination; we are talking about our future here. Anyone who is ready to lead must have volunteered in the past for various leadership positions and must have track records of achievements. This is our future and we must create it with our informed decisions.
It is however sad that our educational system has not done much to produce such individuals, even our religious institutions have not done much either. But, I believe that there are young individuals out there that have refused to be limited by these institutions. I believe this fact because I have met some of them. They are readers and have read books from best sellers and foreign authors, they’ve networked with foreigners via the internet (using Steemit as a major platform) and have become Ministers of their individual community by actions and not by appointment, and they’ve deliberately acquired leadership skills through various activities and are now rich with experience that can lead a people. These individuals have a huge network of active followers which they’ve earned as a result of their investment in people-oriented projects.

These are the people to look out for as we draw closer to making decisions that will shape our future through our votes.
Where ever it is that a vote will take place, either on the internet (Steemit) or in our nations, let’s vote wisely.
