Same here. But sometimes I also prefer a very long 1000 page book. Sometimes I see the potential in shorter stories to unfold in very long ways. But the brevity of some books is what makes it special.

Is body horror like gruesome violence?

Actually not. It is more passive descriptions (if that makes sense). It is obviously still grotesque, but it is not American Psycho (Ellis) or even Stephen King (who is mild). You still need to like the body horror genre to enjoy the book, but it is not that bad (compared to others).
