quivering thoughts
racing ideas
the world seems
like a chaotic place
concepts fly
and pigeons stoop
at the amoral tendencies
of my movements
I take another sip
and again the ordered world
begins to tumble
into surreal bleeding
drunkenness of cognitive imagery
I hold the world
in the palm of my hand
as I sip from the transparency
of the underlying disorder
caffeinated thoughts
rush through my body
as the steps tumble into flight
I catch drift of the wind
on which my mind tries to climb
through which I want to clear away
the fogged-up ideas
it all spills away
as the rain cools my mind
the caffeine leaves me alone
the chaos seeps
into an ordered nightmare
and I feel the weight of the world
on my shoulders
It is winter and winter means rain and cold weather. In some sense this is good, it means soups and stews, wine and cuddles in a warm bed with a book. But in some moments, the preciousness of life can still be felt even though it is cold. The small raindrops on a coffee cup, the smell of petrichor (the first rain on soil). The sip on a warm coffee in a cold office. The flood of ideas as the caffeine rushes through your body. All of these things mean you are human. It means you can feel. It means you can live. And being alive is the most precious gift.
I hope you can have that cup of coffee that inspires you to live.
Happy reading, keep well.
