La selva cual roto moño.
Se espera que el fiel retoño
Como un milagro sustente
Que de tronco deprimente,
Carcomido y sin vigor,
Renazca con esplendor
Una rama reluciente.
El otoño, a la cimiente,
Cubre de hojas y ramas,
Cual acolchonadas camas
Que en abono consistente,
Convierte con persistente
Humedad en franca espera,
Como bendición certera
Al corazón del terreno,
Que agarda por el lejano
Inicio de primavera.

Autumn. (Tenths)
Autumn’s fierce embrace,
With unbridled might,
Will leave the forest—in its onslaught— Like a tattered, disheveled knot.
Yet one hopes the faithful shoot
Will—like a miracle—sustain
How, from a dismal trunk,
Worm-eaten and devoid of vigor,
A radiant branch may rise again
In all its splendor.
Autumn blankets the seedbed
With a cover of leaves and boughs—
Like cushioned beds—
Which, through persistent moisture
And patient waiting,
It transforms into rich compost;
A sure blessing bestowed
Upon the heart of the soil,
That waits for the one from afar
Onset of spring.
