As the eldest, I sometimes felt that my siblings took advantage of privileges denied to them. They may have been right, but none of them took on the same level of commitment toward our parents.
That's all in the past now, and it doesn't matter anymore. As for the grandmothers, the one I knew reserved her favors for the grandchildren of the eldest daughter, my favorite aunt, and disproportionately protected the daughters of the youngest, who, despite being my godmother, never showed me any special affection.
It seems that being the middle child has a certain advantage. You might not get as much attention as the oldest or the youngest, but that grants you more freedom.
