In the past, God guided His people in all kinds of different ways; But if you want God's guidance for your life today, things are much simpler: just follow Jesus! (Hebrews 1: 1-2) Jesus is the Good Shepherd (John 10:11, 14, see Hebrews 13:20, 1 Peter 2:25, 5: 4, Revelation 7:17), and He promises to lead all His sheep - we simply need to hear his voice (John 10:27).
In every circumstance of our lives, the Bible is a lamp for our feet and a light for our path (Psalm 119: 105). The Bible gives us clear moral instructions, but also areas of freedom where we can choose for ourselves. The first example of this was in the Garden of Eden, where God commanded Adam not to eat from the tree that would harm him, and also gave Adam the freedom to eat from any of the other trees whenever he wanted (Genesis 2: 16 - 17). In the same way for us today, God has given us commandments and moral principles for our lives, but when there are two or more good options before us, He has given us the right as His children to freely choose among them.
Sometimes, when faced with several good options, we may wonder if one option could be better than the others (for example, 1 Corinthians 7: 27-28, 38). When we are struggling to discern which is the path ahead and the most in line with God's will for us (Philippians 1:10), we can seek the guidance of others (Proverbs 15:22), and especially of God Himself, who He delights in giving wisdom generously to all who ask with faith (James 1: 5). And so, while considering the different options, we can trust the Lord to lead us in exactly the way He wants us to go (Proverbs 16: 9).
This means that when the time comes to make big decisions, we don't have to worry that by making the "wrong" choice we can somehow lose God's best plan for our lives. Where necessary, God will guide us both internally and subconsciously (Proverbs 21: 1) by His promised Holy Spirit (Ezekiel 36: 26-27) "to love and act according to his good purpose" (Philippians 2:13); (Psalm 104: 10-14), to the smallest detail (Matthew 10: 29-30), to fulfill His sovereign plan to make us more and more like Christ (Romans 8:28). In fact, God is so committed to guiding His children that in exceptional cases, He can also use special or supernatural means such as visions or angels to make sure we take the right path (Acts 12: 6-11, 16: 9).
Although at this moment it is difficult for you to believe, one day you will look in wonder how Jesus guided you through life, weaving a path even through your pain, mistakes and sins, to reach His perfect destiny (Genesis 50:20; Romans 12: 33-36).
Until then, Jesus' commandment is simple: to hear and obey him while leading you on the path of life.
Trust in Jehovah with all your heart, and do not rely on your own intelligence; In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3: 5-6).
The Father loves us, our faith, hope and charity should shine when we face the trials he allows in our lives. Trust is the key to fulfilling the Will of God. We must trust the Father, whose eyes are always upon us. We cannot see or judge within the thick fog, but we must trust the Father who sees everything clearly.
We may sometimes live in a certain situation that is caused by our own weaknesses, mistakes, wrong decisions and the bad intentions of those around us. Where is the Will of God in that? If we have prayed and do not have a solution at hand, if we have tried to change what was within our reach and things have only gotten worse, we can be sure that the growth in patience is the Will of God. Continuous prayer will give us strength and this in turn perseverance and this, hope that will not be futile.
This is the difference between a pagan and a Christian. For a pagan the pain makes no sense. As a result, he lives a life of loneliness and frustration. The Christian can experience the same trials as a pagan and never lose joy. See God's will in them, see the opportunity to be like Jesus, to give him glory in the Kingdom. The tests for the pagan increase despair and enlighten the Christian who shares the yoke of Jesus.
There will be times when His Will is clouded in our minds and the way forward is so uncertain that we are forced to choose and hope for the best. Our peace in these circumstances comes from the deep certainty that the Lord lives among us, his children that God is our father and will take care of us.
God is love. He is satisfied with the sincere effort of his children to know and fulfill His Will, which will be crowned with success even if everything seems lost.
Pray to our Lord and Father to allow his Holy Spirit to fill us with the awareness of his Will at this time.
Let us ask for your Providence, Guide and Grace in our daily life.
Forgive me, Lord, when I overflow with the occasions when it seems to me that your Will seems difficult to fulfill. My life is plagued by my own will and selfishness. My heart is not ready for sacrifice and my mind rejects what it cannot understand. Let your mercy surround me and fill me with your light. Let me clearly see the wisdom behind everything you allow and love in everything you order. May our wills become one to do in this life what I must do to reach eternity, perfectly united to Your will.
