TRUANT

Deep brown benches, 

            mischievous laughs

Pretending to study, 

             eating in class.

Listening to lectures of topices long taught.

Bearing the scoldings for lessons forgot.

                    Kicking under benches, the ensuing battles.

Goofing off and giggling as the benches rattle.

                   Moaning at homework given.

Cheering when there's none.

                      Reminiscing at length about not very nice things done.

Getting lost in your ridiculous fantasies,  

                       finally dozing off.

Not studying unless shouted at, 

                chatting non-stop.

                      Exchanging guilty gleeful glances with equally guilty friends.

                                Looking at the clock, 

                                              

desperately willing for class to end.
