He puts coins of one, two and five cents in an envelope and gives them to the doctor who treated his mother's cancer. His name is Giovanni. He is 5 years old and gives his savings to Dr. Caldarella. "They are for research", says the child, offering the oncologist all his savings, about 45 cents.
"I felt like crying," says the doctor.
Last year Mum had undergone an operation to fight breast cancer. Today Giovanni's mother can be said healed. The child was there with her for a mission to deliver to the specialist an envelope, accompanied by a note.
"The envelope weighed - says Dr. Caldarella - and I realized that I would not find only a letter". Recounting that moment, the doctor confesses that he was moved and even a little 'embarrassed, to the point of not feeling able to hold the straight look of little John, not being able to look him in the eye. Then, overcome the emotion, he says: "You are a little man".
"I've been a surgeon for 20 years, I've seen a lot of sad stories, but this gesture has moved me," says the oncologist. At the end the value of the gesture remains. "It's a small change, but the beauty is to see these children in our future, made up of simple gestures".
