This past week, I've created a couple lists of some great free games to play to cure your boredom as many people are financially struggling right now and many are still in self-quarantine. I haven't dedicated a list to first person shooters yet and we've seen a lot of great FPS games come out in the past couple years which is why I decided that it'd be a great idea to throw this list together for those with little money and an itchy trigger finger.
With that being said, let's get into it!
Call of Duty: Warzone
Call of Duty: Warzone is by far my favorite game on this list as it's everything that you've come to love from a Call of Duty game, but this one is completely free. Unlike many free-to-play shooters, this one doesn't pressure you into buying anything and your skill, not your wallet, will dictate how many kills you can rack up. It has a massive map that supports up to 150 players at the same time which is unheard of especially for a free-to-play game. If you still haven't tried it yet, you'll probably love this great free FPS game!
Apex Legends
Of all the games on this list, this is the one that I actually know the least about. I know it's a great free-to-play shooter that's quite popular though. This one came out a month before Call of Duty: Warzone and was one of the top FPS games that people loved before Call of Duty: Warzone overshadowed it. Check out some gameplay footage of it and if it seems like your cup of tea, try it out for yourself!
Counter Strike: Global Offensive
Counter Strike: Global Offensive (or CS:GO for short) is the second oldest game on this list and can easily be ran on gaming PCs that generally can't play newer FPS games. This game was and still is a popular game in eSports. It gained a lot of fame on Youtube not just for it's eSports nature, but the ability to earn skins and knives in the game that many were able to sell on the market for real money... some of them being worth a lot too! It's a much simpler game than Apex or Warzone and for some people, that might just be what they're looking for. You can get CS:GO and try it for yourself on Steam.
Halo 5: Forge Bundle
I talked about this game in a list I made last week, but since it's a free shooter and a great one at that, I decided that it'd make for a good spot on this list. A lot of free-to-play shooters have a more modern nature to them, but since this is of course Halo, it's great for those looking for a sci-fi shooter or just those who are fans of the Halo series in general. There's no campaign in this game, but it still has a fairly active multiplayer side so you shouldn't have any issues with finding a match. Even though this was released just four years ago, it's a great game for those who have older GPUs like the GTX 750TI for instance. You can find this one on the Microsoft store.
Team Fortress 2
Last up is the oldest game on this list, Team Fortress 2. Do you find most shooters to take themselves a bit too seriously and are looking for something a bit more... wacky? If so then Team Fortress 2 may just be the game that you're looking for. Many people still play it and you can find it for free on Steam. This game came out all the way back in 2007 so even those with terrible computers should probably be able to play this classic shooter without much of an issue.
