The issue of domestic violence is very rampant in our society. Recently, I saw a video on the internet of a guy physically abusing his partner (girlfriend).

Domestic violence" or "intimate partner violence", according to the United Nations can be defined as a pattern of behavior in any relationship that is used to gain or maintain power and control over an intimate partner.

Abuse can be physical, sexual, emotional, or threats of actions that influence another person. This also includes any behaviors that frighten, intimidate, terrorize, manipulate, hurt, humiliate, blame, injure, or wound someone. Domestic abuse can happen to anyone of any race, age, sexual orientation, religion, or gender.

Abuse isn't tied to gender, don't get me wrong. Our focus today will be on the female gender, especially those who are abused and still stay in that abusive relationship.

Sometimes, some relationships seem perfect on the outside but a sharp contrast in reality. Ladies hide their pain, they smile and pretend that all is going well. Yes, you can't always have a perfect relationship, but when it becomes abuse you have to leave.

Most abused ladies would not want to leave such relationships either because of low self-esteem or what they are gaining from their partner ( sex or material things). Others do not want to be alone and just want to bear the title "girlfriend".

What is love when there is no peace? Ladies, you are worth more than any material thing a man gives to you. You don't have to die in silence because of what society will say. You come first, let society say what they want to say.

Ladies are rising and holding national and global positions. We have the likes of
Kamala Harris, Ngozi Okonjo-Iweala, and others. It's time to arise, women wake up.

It's possible that before you got into the relationship, you didn't know it would turn out to be abusive. What exactly is your excuse now that you are aware? Why are you still there? What's keeping you?

A lot of women have lost their lives due to this. You deserve better, don't stay in that abusive relationship. Remember, if you value yourself you won't be there in the first place.

Lastly, reach out to people for help if you feel stuck and don't know how to get out. It is better to be single than to be in an abusive relationship.

It's also better to have a failed relationship than have a failed marriage. You don't want your kids to go through that. Being SINGLE IS NOT BEING ALONE.
