This is a post showing the state of an abandoned coke porcessing works near Chesterfield in Derbyshire where I visited originally for lightpainting purposes but ended up looking quite interesting in daylight too. This place is now mostly demolished and the bit that's left is locked up tight. The ground that this site is on is very polluted and several local livestock farms had to close due to carcinogenic substances found the cattle's milk. There's now a clean up operation in progress and it seems that no housing or development is going to be built on the land either, such is the state of the ground around the site!

Inside an abandoned vehicle workshop

I design vehicle workshops for a living and I knew that the service pits in here were best avoided being 5 or 6ft deep and full of foul smelling oil and water. Everywhere was covered in oil residue, dust and trip hazards and the prospect of falling down a deep pit of cold fetid looking water was not very appealing! We didn't stay long in this building before moving in the open air.

Polluted Skies

We mostly shot this place in the dark, well I am a lightpainting photographer... The custom white balance shenanigans amplify the state of the site:

Same shot as above more or less but the difference that lighting can make is amazing.

Industrial Strength Coloquix

I placed inksurgeon@inksurgeon in the frame to give a sense of scale of these concrete tanks:

Chemical Nights

The ground is so polluted around this site. There is an acrid, oily and sulphurous smell and the red gel here reminds me of the stench!

This place made a great gallery for the local graff artists:

Industrial Coloquix

Coloquix really is prolific here:

Lost in a sea of polythene

The Coalite bags for the coke were littered everywhere...

This was a collaborative piece by Coloquix and I believe it may be "faunagraphic" but I'm not certain....someone is bound to correct me....

About me:
I usually specialise in shooting lightpainting images but occasionally dabble in urbex and artistic model photography. I'm always on the lookout for someone to collaborate with; please don't hesitate to get in touch if you'd like to create art.
